Because forests touch our lives in so many ways, we have a responsibility to grow and nurture them for future generations. To make sure our forests are always with us, companies put back at least as many trees as we take.
Under Alberta law, any area that’s harvested needs to be regenerated, and the company that completed the harvest is also responsible for regenerating the site. Forestry companies in Alberta go beyond just replanting what was there – on average, two new conifers are planted for each one that’s harvested.
In 2020 alone, Alberta forest companies planted 87 million trees. Companies have planted nearly 2 billion trees over the last 20 years.
