Forests are complex ecosystems. To care for them, we need to make the effort to learn about them. Because our forests are too important to treat carelessly, the people who work in and around them rely on scientific evidence as a guide for what they should do.
Researchers and scientists from across disciplines contribute to our understanding of forests. There’s no shortage of topics to study – one researcher might dedicate her career to understanding how birds respond to disturbance in the forest, while another might spend his life studying how to stop the spread of the mountain pine beetle. The University of Alberta, fRI Research and other research organizations – both here in Alberta and around the world – help improve the way companies manage our forests.
